90,000 tns.Main Production Areas: East Azarbaijan, Fars, Khorasan, and Yazd provinces.
Main Varieties: There are about 18 wild almond varieties in Iran and late bloom almond varieties like Azar (AHSO), Sahand (162), Harir (AH25), Shokufeh (AH3), Ne plus Ultra, Non Parell, and Francs are the result of interbreeding of varieties.
Annual Exports: 5200 tns.
Nutritional Values: Minerals like potassium; Calcium & phosphorus, niacin, riboflavin & thiamin.
Forms of Consumption: Dried fruit, sweet and hitter kernels are used in confectionery and chocolate industries.
Industrial & Medicinal Uses: Almond oil is used in pharmaceutical industries for removing bad odours and tastes of medicines. Almond oil is also used in formulating foodstuff and cosmetics. Extract of sweet almond is used for producing anti-dermal inflammation ointments.
