Poultry breeding industry for meat and egg production

The poultry farming industry, which was one of the under-developed industries, has gained growth and is currently one of the principal meat production sectors.

Investment and employment levels and the role of this sector in the production of protein requirements of the nation have attained high proportions in the national economy.
In 1995 poultry production exceeded 600.000 tons placing Iran sixteenth among 152 countries. Currently more than 18500 poultry production farms are in operation and the overall activities in this industry in 1994 has resulted in the production of 676.000 tons of treated chicken meat and 486.000 tons of eggs, providing a valuable supplement to the national animal protein production and especially to the country's economic cycle.

Prior to 1992 the poultry broiler sector depended on imports from abroad. However, through the utilization of special breeding centers and protection of the flesh lines, the current broiler industry is capable not only meeting the countries requirements, but also of supplying a part of demands from other countries in the region.

Improvement of poultry pedigree stocks:

In addition to the management and operation of broiler farms, S. L. A. L. Inc. operates a pedigree-breeding center, under the broiler production sector.

The poultry breed improvement center laboratory is equipped with the most modern facilities and is staffed by experts whose duties include the preservation of pedigree broiler stock for meat production.

Principal activities & capabilities of the pedigree improvement center (the most up to date of its kind in the M.E.):

  1. The center is active in preserving native cattle breeds, and also improving the native breeds of regional countries.
  2. It co-ordinates national requirements with demands from other countries.
  3. The center is capable of exporting its products of high quality breeds, conforming to international standards, to its neighboring countries at highly competitive rates.
  4. The center cab also provide the specialized care and technological know-how required for varying climatic conditions.
  5. The ARYAN pedigree poultry stock currently available from Iran was accomplished by the employment of advanced scientific pedigree breeding methods.

Animal husbandry subsidiary industries:

  1. Poultry and livestock feed industries exports are able to prepare and produce a range of formulated feeds and concentrates for livestock. This industry can prepare tailor-made animal feed for its own requirements as well as for those of other poultry and animal farmers. The latest range of its products includes world standard mineral and vitamin pre-mixes for local requirements and also for export.
  2. Slaughterhouses operate on semi-automatic and fully automatic cycles; and their produce appears in different forms of hygienically packaged and frozen products supplied to consumer centers.

In addition, slaughterhouse by-products such as pickled skins & hides and intestines of the highest quality are prepared and packed for export.

Dairy industries:

There has been a recent 90% increase in raw milk production amounting to 1.200.000 tons, and 40.000 tons of industrially processed cheese.

At present Iran has the potential of designing and constructing poultry and livestock slaughterhouse units as well as industrial facilities to manufacture poultry hatcheries and dairy farm milking stations & equipments.
